The time has finally come to get onto the range and to start learning archery. I have already spent a lot of time researching and watching YouTube videos, as well as spending a couple of individual archery sessions.
I would say that I am getting better but slightly concerned that my form and stance might not be the best. I also want to join an archery club and hopefully start to take part in different tournaments and competitions. I therefore joined a beginners course in archery!
The course itself is a 4 week course, ill be shooting for 2 hours per week and by the end of the 8 hours Ill hopefully have improved my accuracy and power. My plan is to then join a local club and practice as often as possible.
I booked onto the course around a year ago but had to wait for the next slot to open up. Last night I finally went and by the end of the 2 hours, I wanted next week to hurry up and come round!
The lesson started with an overview of how to have a good stance, we then moved onto posture and finally actually hold and shooting the bow. Whilst shooting we were watched by our coach and this allowed them to correct any issues.
At first I continued to repeat a few errors in stance, these including;
- Back moving forwards
- Not raising the bow high enough when aiming
- Not pulling the bow string back enough
By the end of it though, I felt a lot more confident and these issues were gone!
I am happy to say that I didn’t miss the target once, Whoop!
Over this next week I hope to practice the stance a bit in the mirror and also work on an exercise plan to help improve my upper body strength.
